Cheap Minibus and MPV Insurance
There are tens of thousands of minibus journeys made on UK roads every single day. From private hire minibuses to those vehicles used by schools, charities, churches, universities, nursing homes or scout groups, minibuses are a great way to transport your group. With many different types of vehicle and usage, it’s vital that you find the right minibus insurance for your particular needs.
Third-Party or Comprehensive?
There are generally three different types of minibus or mpv insurance available. These are ‘comprehensive’, ‘third party, fire and theft’, or ‘third party only’.
‘Third-party only’ cover ensures that you are protected in the event of any liability for death, injury or damage to a third party or to other people’s property. For example, if you had an accident with another vehicle that was your fault; ‘third party’ insurance would cover the cost of repairs to the other vehicle, but not to your own.
‘Third-party, fire and theft’ offers the same cover, but it also provides insurance against your own vehicle being damaged by fire or if it is stolen.
‘Comprehensive’ insurance includes all of the above, plus cover to repair damage to your own vehicle. It generally also includes many extra benefits such as windscreen cover and personal effects cover.
‘Fleet’ cover
If you own several minibuses, it may be possible to arrange your insurance on a ‘fleet’ basis. This means that all your different vehicles can be covered under one minibus fleet insurance policy, rather than having a policy on each vehicle. This can often be simpler and cheaper than having lots of individual policies.
There are several important factors to take into account when choosing minibus insurance. Make sure that your policy covers you for:
• Driving abroad – If you intend to use your minibus abroad, you should check that your insurance policy includes overseas cover. Many do but may restrict the usage to 30 or 90 days
• All the minibus’ different uses (if applicable)
• The total number of passengers that you intend to carry
• The total weight of your minibus (including passengers and luggage)
• Carrying passengers who pay a contribution or fare (if applicable)
Number of drivers
Depending on how your minibus is used, there may be a requirement for several drivers to be insured on the vehicle. Make sure that your policy covers anyone likely to be driving the minibus.
